Arella Sohn became a realtor in 1981. Previously, she was working in administration at the University of Toronto when her husband, himself a realtor, persuaded her she would be perfect for real estate. It didn’t take long for Arella to discover that her husband was absolutely right. She has enjoyed almost every minute of every day of her career. Arella loves working with first time buyers because it is a teaching-oriented experience and she feels like she’s educating her clients rather than selling them. Today, almost all of her business is from repeat and referred clients. Arella’s philosophy is to forget about the commissions and see yourself as a service provider helping people find their home. To make sure she gets it right from the start, she does a lot of research before even taking a client out for viewings. For example, if a client wants to look at an area, she physically goes out and previews it to make sure there are no surprises and that the area i s appropriate for her client. Even when it is not appropriate for one client she may discover that it is perfect for another client. It also helps Arella keep a perspective on the market as a whole. Well into a successful real estate career, and after having taught many other realtors through Ontario Real Estate Association courses, Arella and her husband are enjoying their ideal lifestyle. Living in the Distillery District, she does most of her business from May to October and often from the back of her scooter. Arella enjoys living from November to April in Mexico at a Canadian artists colony that began in the 1920s...living the life!
